Bundesbriefmuseum-Swiss Charter Museum

Since its inception, the Bundesbriefmuseum has been known as the archival location for all documents pertaining to the emergence of the Confederation.

The permanent exhibit includes the Federal Charter of 1291 to 1513, the freedom of letters from 1230, significant joint federal documents, and an impressive collection of flags and banners. Visitors will be pleased to find a rotation of temporary exhibitions and information resources providing additional insight into understanding the early days of the Swiss Confederation and the earlier constitutional history.

Visitors can interactively participate in political and scientific debates surrounding the Federal Charter. Computer stations allow a detailed examination of the original text and in modern understandable terms, explore important new research on the early history of Confederation.
